More than ten years ago, my time as a national account executive for a multinational telecommunications giant came to an end as the product I supported (voice) would become part of the data offering. Those of us who were sales professionals for its T1 voice products were no longer needed, and comparable opportunities with similar enterprises were all but disappearing as the telcom industry experienced yet another shake-up. It became clear to me that if I was to prosper, new skills were needed — technical skills. Up until this point, I had relied on only my sales and people skills, without equipping myself with technical knowledge to augment my skill set. As a result, I took ownership of my circumstances, and set about changing the trajectory of my own destiny — I gained a second bachelor’s degree (there was no time nor money to earn an MBA) in one year, and sought to begin a new career in a technical field.
I began coding emails for a non-profit trade association which led to a larger roles with organizations using Salesforce Marketing Cloud (ExactTarget, Pardot Engagement Studio), and eventually a career encompassing all aspects of high-volume email marketing where I found I could thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment, successfully delivering on multiple projects (often with competing priorities) at the same time.
Even while having since gained a wealth of knowledge in email marketing, there is always more to learn — emerging technologies, updated best practices, new tools and methods — hence, investing in myself to acquire new skills and proficiency is part and parcel of my work ethic, as is an extraordinary reliability and integrity.
A product of growth and experience — both in life, and profession — provides a clear idea of how your enterprise will benefit from what I bring to a role, and to a team.
